This guide is specifically for travellers using a Polish passport. Entry conditions can change, so check the official requirements again shortly before departure.

As of 13 October 2026, Polish passport holders may use Thailand’s visa exemption scheme for tourism and short business trips for up to 60 days. Entry remains subject to the decision of the immigration officer at the port of entry. Longer stays and other purposes require a route suited to the traveller’s circumstances.

The information below was checked against the Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw, the official Thai E-Visa website, the Thai Immigration Bureau and the Thailand Digital Arrival Card website. Eligibility, documents, fees and processing times can change, so those official sources take priority over this article.

Do Polish citizens need a visa for Thailand in 2026?

For a standard tourist trip within the permitted period, Polish passport holders do not normally need to obtain a visa in advance. The current exemption and its conditions are published by the Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw. Visa exemption is not an automatic guarantee of admission, and travellers must still meet the entry conditions.

Visa-free entry: how long can you stay?

Since 2024, Thailand has extended visa-free entry to 60 days for citizens of many countries, including Poland. This means that after entering on your passport, you are legally allowed to stay for 60 days and travel around the country without a visa. The previous limit was 30 days, so this is an important change to bear in mind when planning a longer trip.

Visa-free entry is for tourism only. It does not allow you to work, conduct business or study in Thailand.

If you plan to stay longer than 60 days, you need an appropriate visa. Likewise, if your purpose for staying goes beyond tourism, visa-free entry is not enough and you must arrange the correct entry document before departure.

When does a visa for Thailand become mandatory?

The correct immigration route depends on the purpose and planned length of stay. Remote work, employment, study, retirement and family stays are not interchangeable categories. The Destination Thailand Visa may be relevant to some remote workers, while employment normally requires the appropriate Non-Immigrant visa and work authorisation. Check eligibility before applying.

The table below is a starting point, not an eligibility decision:

Situation

Route to verify in the official system

Tourism beyond the initial visa-exempt period

An extension, if eligible and approved, or an appropriate tourist visa

Employment or running a business

The relevant Non-Immigrant category and any required work authorisation

Study or long-term courses

The relevant education visa category

Remote work or an eligible workcation

Check Destination Thailand Visa eligibility and current evidence requirements

Retirement, investment or a long-term family stay

The specific category matching the applicant’s circumstances

The Embassy states that visa-exempt entry through land border checkpoints is limited to twice per calendar year for eligible Polish passport holders. Entry through international airports is not covered by that numerical land-border limit, but every admission decision remains with immigration.

Documents and entry requirements for visa-free travel

Visa exemption does not remove the entry conditions. Immigration officers may ask for supporting evidence, and incomplete or inconsistent documents can lead to additional questions or refusal of entry. Prepare the documents relevant to your trip before travelling.

What to have with you at the border

You need a valid passport with at least six months’ validity from your date of entry. A passport with less than six months’ validity is one of the most common reasons Polish tourists are refused entry after failing to check their documents in advance.

In addition to your passport, border officials may ask you to provide:

Proof of accommodation booking for the full length of your stay or at least the first few days

A return ticket or onward ticket showing that you plan to leave the country before the permitted 60 days are up

Proof of sufficient funds (Thailand requires 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family for visa-free entry)

A Thailand Digital Arrival Card submitted through the official TDAC website within the permitted submission window

Carry accessible copies of the documents relevant to your journey. The officer may not request every item, but you should be able to explain your travel purpose and intended departure.

Thailand Digital Arrival Card

All non-Thai nationals entering by air, land or sea must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, unless they remain in transit without passing through immigration. The official system is free. Submit the form within three days before arrival, including the arrival date, and complete a new TDAC for each entry. The TDAC is an arrival card, not a visa.

What to expect during border checks

Keep your documents and stated travel purpose consistent. Visa exemption does not authorise employment, and a TDAC does not replace a visa or work authorisation. The immigration officer makes the final decision on admission and the permitted period of stay.

Types of visa for Thailand and when you need them

If visa-free entry is not enough for your plans, you must choose the right visa type before departure. Thailand offers several visa categories for specific travel purposes, and choosing the wrong document may lead to problems at the border or require you to leave the country sooner than planned.

Tourist visa

A tourist visa may be appropriate when the planned trip does not fit the visa exemption conditions. Available options, permitted stays and supporting documents depend on the applicant’s residence, nationality and travel plan. Use the eligibility checker on the official Thai E-Visa website instead of assuming that a single-entry or multiple-entry visa is available or suitable.

A visa’s validity period is not the same as the period of stay granted at the border. Check both before travelling.

Non-Immigrant visas and other categories

Non-Immigrant visas and long-stay programmes cover specific purposes. The label alone does not establish eligibility, and extensions or work rights are not automatic.

Category to check

Typical purpose

Important point

Non-Immigrant B

Employment or business

Visa and work authorisation requirements must be checked separately

Non-Immigrant ED

Eligible study or training

The education provider and course must meet current requirements

Non-Immigrant O and retirement categories

Family, retirement or another qualifying purpose

Evidence and financial conditions depend on the exact category

Destination Thailand Visa

Eligible workcation and listed Thai soft-power activities

Use the Embassy’s current DTV criteria and document list

Long-Term Resident visa

Applicants who meet a qualifying long-term resident profile

Separate eligibility criteria apply

Applicants residing in Poland should follow the Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw e-Visa instructions. Applicants residing elsewhere must use the diplomatic mission responsible for their place of residence. The application is submitted online, but the responsible mission may request additional documents or an interview.

How to apply for an e-visa, step by step

Thailand allows you to apply for an e-visa online through the official government portal, so there is no need to visit the embassy in person. The process is relatively straightforward, but requires specific documents to be prepared and the form to be completed carefully in English. Mistakes at this stage may delay processing or result in rejection, so take each step calmly and without rushing.

Where to apply for a Thailand e-visa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs runs the official Thai E-Visa website. Create an account, complete the application, upload the required evidence and pay through the official system. An approved confirmation is sent electronically and should be carried with the passport. Application fees are non-refundable, and a card provider may charge its own payment fee.

Before filling in the application, prepare scans of your documents in the required formats (usually JPG or PDF, up to a few MB each) so you don’t have to interrupt the process halfway through.

What to prepare and how the application works

To apply, you need a valid passport and a recent biometric photo that meets the portal’s requirements. Also prepare documents confirming the purpose of your trip, your accommodation booking and proof of sufficient funds for your planned stay in Thailand.

Here are the steps in the application process:

Create an account on thaievisa.go.th using your email address

Choose the visa type that matches the purpose of your stay

Complete the application form in English

Upload scans of all required documents

Pay the application fee online by payment card

Allow the processing time published by the responsible mission. The Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw currently states that applications usually take 10 to 15 working days and recommends applying at least one month before travel

Print the e-visa and take it to the airport with your passport

Extending your stay, entry limits and penalties

Even if you entered Thailand visa-free for 60 days, at some point your period of legal stay will end. It’s worth finding out in advance what you can do if you plan to stay longer and what the consequences are for overstaying. Thai immigration rules are strict on this matter.

How to extend your stay in Thailand

A Polish passport holder admitted under the visa exemption scheme may apply to the Thai Immigration Bureau for an extension of up to 30 days. Approval is discretionary. Check the current form, evidence, appointment procedure and fee with the immigration office handling the application.

Leaving Thailand and attempting to re-enter is not an extension and does not guarantee a new permitted stay. Do not build a long-stay plan around repeated visa-exempt entries. Immigration may examine the travel pattern and refuse admission.

If you intend to stay for several months or undertake an activity beyond the exemption conditions, choose the appropriate visa route before departure.

Penalties for overstaying

Staying beyond the permitted period, known as an overstay, has specific consequences. Thai regulations impose a fine of 500 THB for each day beyond the permitted period, up to a maximum of 20,000 THB. A longer overstay may lead to detention by immigration officials, deportation at your own expense and a ban on entering Thailand for between one and 10 years, depending on the length of the violation.

Length of overstay

Consequences

Up to 90 days

Fine of 500 THB per day

More than 90 days

Entry ban for 1 year

More than 1 year but no more than 3 years

Entry ban for 3 years

More than 3 years but no more than 5 years

Entry ban for 5 years

More than 5 years

Entry ban for 10 years

To finish: a quick checklist before departure

For Polish citizens, the Thailand visa situation in 2026 is straightforward, but only if you prepare in advance. Missing one document can spoil your whole trip at the border, so go through this list and check every item before departure.

Passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry

Return ticket or onward ticket out of Thailand

Proof of accommodation booking (at least for the first few days of your stay)

Proof that you have 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family

A completed TDAC submitted through the official website within three days before arrival

If the trip exceeds the exemption conditions: the appropriate visa or an eligible extension plan confirmed through official sources

The e-Visa confirmation, if you applied online

Have your entry formalities sorted and looking for ideas for your stay?
